Wooden Doors and Frames

There are many outlets which sell ready made doors and frames, but if you want something a little out of the ordinary or to compliment your property's appearance, you will need to have it made to measure.

This approach may prove more expensive, but there are advantages to having doors custom made:

• You have complete control over the design, dimensions and finish of each door
• The timber and craftsmanship will be far superior to an ‘off the shelf’ product
• The new wooden doors (and frames if required) will be expertly fitted.

The process of ordering a new wooden door should begin with a discussion about the type of door you want and where it’s going to be fitted. You may feel that a door is just a door, but there is so much more to it than that.  Doors have functional and stylistic features which, when chosen wisely, can add value to your home. You’ll need, therefore, to make a number of important choices about the design and construction of your new door:

• Do you prefer a flush or panelled door, with various options for the panelling?
• What style appeals? Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, barn, contemporary?
• Should it be a matching pair, folding,moulded, rebated or non-rebated?
• Do you want softwood or hardwood? What species of wood should be used?
• Should the door be solid wood or part glazed?
• Should you incorporate a fan light?
• If a new frame is required what design should it be?
• Do you prefer a painted, stained, waxed or varnished finish?
• What type and style of door furniture do you require?
• Does the door need to comply with fire regulations?
